Even on the coldest winter day a pair of nice gloves or mittens can make you feel cozy and warm, protecting your tender skin from harmful impact of frost. Although both are meant to keep your hands safe from cold weather, mittens are believed to be warmer than gloves as your fingers create more heat when they’re covered with one piece of fabric. However, many prefer gloves for daily use due to their convenient design that allows your hands, and fingers in particular, to function without any difficulties. Gloves and mittens can be made of natural materials like leather and wool or synthetic fabrics like fleece and nylon that reduce heat loss.

While for some mittens and gloves are, first of all, a stylish accessory, for others it’s a necessity. For example, waterproof gloves and mittens are an essential equipment for extreme kinds of sports like snowboarding and skiing. For hikers and mountaineers, a choice of a proper pair of gloves is of utmost importance as they often encounter harsh conditions like wind, rain, and low temperatures. Such gloves are usually made of three layers: a liner that gets rid of moisture, an insulation layer that saves the warmth inside and a shell that protects your hands from external hazards.
