Gun Magazines

Before the invention of the first magazine over a century ago, most guns of that time were able to fire only once between chargings, so an operator had to feed his or her weapon with a bullet over and over again to continue shooting. A gun magazine challenged the status quo and made shooting much faster and easier. Since that time its design and construction have been continually developed and improved, resulting in a wide range of magazine types available today. Nowadays, you can find dozens of gun magazine designs, including high-capacity, extended, tubular, casket, rotary, drum and many more.

While there are plenty of magazine designs, all of them can be grouped under two main categories, such as detachable and fixed. The first one includes all gun magazines that can be removed from the firearm, which makes charging a gun as easy as pie. Fixed or internal box magazines are built into the firearm and cannot be removed for reloading. Although, despite their differences in construction, both detachable and fixed magazines are designed to perform the same functions. They serve as ammunition storage and feeding devices and allow an operator to do a series of rounds without reloading a magazine.
