Solar power technology is becoming a conscious choice made by lots of people worldwide. A controller, also known as a solar or power charge regulator, monitors and controls the energy coming from photovoltaic cells to the battery. In a nutshell, the major role of the controller is to protect the power station from overloading and prevent the energy from flowing back to the panels at night. There are two classes of controllers, PWM (short for Pulse Width Modulation) and MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking.) The PWM type is cheaper than MPPT and works well with small systems. MPPT models provide tuned monitoring of the voltage/amperage, making them extremely efficient and well-suited for large systems.
